About Us

Our Mission:

To offer, share and inspire those that walk through our door with tools for transformation, healing and living in the present. We do this through the eight limbs of yoga (Raja Yoga).  Asanas (physical postures), meditation (mind quieting), breathing (pranayama), and life practices (yama and niyama) are all a part of what yoga can offer you to fit your life and your inner callings.  At the heart of our mission is a desire to continually create a space for connection and community at Yoga Anand Ashram.  Yoga Anand Ashram was established in 1972 as a not-for-profit sanctuary by Gurani Anjali Joseph (Guruma) for the purpose of offering the science and philosophy of yoga to all who desire to learn this ancient system of physical, mental and spiritual transformation.  She touched many hearts through her teachings, words, songs, poems and dedication to sharing this spiritual path. She passed away in 2001.

Yoga means to yoke, or to open our minds and hearts to the fullness of our being and to know our connection to the essence of all of life.

Anand means bliss.  Bliss is the experience of connection with your highest or true self, God, the universe, consciousness and any other label you can place on that unnameable all-encompassing PRESENCE. The truth is we all have experienced this at some moment or another in our lives. Yoga can help to create a deep experience and connection with this Bliss.

An Ashram is a place of peace away from all of the distractions of modern life, a sanctuary for your being.  It is a place for support, learning, healing and community as we all navigate through our daily lives.

We look forward to the constant evolution of Yoga Anand Ashram always with a core of yoga and meditation classes along with our diverse workshops, events, concerts, festivals and lectures. Yoga that is accessible to everyone. Come see what we have to offer……
